About the Design
Jeff Copeland has been dreaming about this coin for three years. He went through 4 artists and multiple prototypes attempting to create the most complete historical fiction kraken coin ANYWHERE!
The Kraken coins are unique because they tell a story. Note that the half dollar and dollar size coins have four different images total.
Let's start with the dollar size coin. On the obverse side, you see the Kraken lurking under the ship. As it's massive, destructive tentacles reach up and take over the ship, it patiently waits below the surface.
The arms of the sea monster go every direction, dancing and consuming the entire sea below.
On the reverse side of the coin, you see the viking ship struggling and fighting to stay afloat against all odds. The Kraken seems to be taking over everything...
Actually, the Kraken is taking over everything. Including the coin itself!
As you follow the arms of this mythical creature reach around the ship, you note they even wrap around not just the faces, but the edge of the coin as well! The reeded edges of the coin are the suction cups of the Kraken's arms!
The holder of the coin is invited to twist and flip the coin from front to back and experience the struggle to overcome the monster for themselves.
This coin symbolizes the difficulty of overcoming consuming dark emotions, depression, and addiction. A theme many can personally relate with or have watched loved ones deal with at some point in life.
The half dollar sized coin continues this story of despair but also offers hope. The tails side is a treasure chest sinking down into the Kraken's lair. The anchor has broken free from it's tether and it appears like all could be lost.
The heads side of the half dollar features a raven that has saved the mast flag of the ship and flys safely away from the reach of the Kraken. Hope persists!
When you line up the dollar and half dollar coins together, you can see how the story expands from one coin to the other.
There were several challenges to create this coin set. First, to make a coin with tentacle edge has never been done. Next, the powder coated matte finish was a unique effect to make the coin appear that it had been underwater, but be safe to the touch and not have actual rust or corrosion that could hurt anyone's hands. The amazing results of this coin make a coating that reacts to the oils in your skin and gets an even better touch with daily use!!

*Please Note: Each coin is hand groomed to have small variations and the appearance of light circulation in the real world. For this reason each coin will have small, intentional variances in color. Coins purchased in sets are matched to look the same.
These coins will break in beautifully with a couple days use.
The powder coating matte finish may scratch and reveal the brass underneath making a more realistic look.
